Common Questions
Can I take sleep medication while completing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)?
Yes! If you’re currently taking sleep medication, you can still participate in CBT-I. If you’d like to reduce or stop your medication, we can collaborate with your prescriber to create a safe titration schedule while working on behavioral sleep improvements. If you prefer to stay on your medication, that is absolutely fine as well.
Does Dr. Wilk prescribe sleep medication?
No. Dr. Wilk is a psychologist and does not prescribe medication. If you’re interested in sleep medication, she can refer you to a psychiatrist or your primary care provider (PCP) for an evaluation.
What can I expect in therapy?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and typically occur once per week or every other week. At the end of each session, we will create a personalized sleep plan for the following week. You will be asked to keep a sleep log and follow the strategies discussed in therapy.
How long does therapy take?
The number of sessions varies depending on the sleep disorder being treated. On average:
✔ Most treatment plans take 4-10 sessions.
✔ If your sleep improves faster, therapy may end sooner.
✔ If sleep concerns persist after 12 sessions, we will discuss next steps and additional treatment options.

Is sleep therapy covered by insurance?

Yes, Dr. Wilk accepts Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Colorado, and Anthem EAP - Bank of America. If you’re paying out-of-pocket, a Good Faith Estimate will be provided for expected treatment costs.

How is online sleep therapy different from in-person therapy?
Online therapy offers the same evidence-based treatment as in-person sessions, with the added convenience of meeting from your home. Research has shown that virtual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is just as effective as in-person therapy.

Do I need a referral to start therapy?
